The region of South Moravia, located in the south of the Czech Republic, is mostly known as a fertile lowland filled with vineyards and orchards. In reality, however, South Moravia can be quite different – it will surprise with steep, ascending valleys and deep forests, a beautiful, rocky landscape and romantic wild rivers. This is what Podyjí-Thayatal looks like – where South Moravia and Austria meet on the river Thaya.

South Moravia – your starting point in the heart of Podyjí-Thayatal

The town Vranov nad Dyjí is the natural centre of the Podyjí-Thayatal region, which lies on the border between South Moravia and the Austrian Waldviertel region, formed by the river Thaya. If you choose Vranov nad Dyjí as a starting point, many interesting tourist destinations are within easy reach.

Pension Jelen *** offers accommodation with a magnificent view of the Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau directly from the windows of your room or from the garden. Our guesthouse is also an excellent starting point for any activities you may have planned. You can set out into the beautiful nature of the Podyjí-Thayatal national park, or towards the castles and chateaux along the river Thaya. The historic town of Znojmo or the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Telč, Třebíč and Lednice-Valtice are also worth a visit. Or, if relaxing is more your thing, you can visit the thermal spa in Laa an der Thaya or the dam in Vranov nad Dyjí.

The delicious local wine cannot be missed. South Moravia has a lot to offer – visit our beautiful land and see for yourself!
